Racism: The “Top Cop”, Sterling and Death at the Jewish Center

In the last 4 weeks we have publicly been reminded of something we’d love to have left in our country’s past, namely racism! We can’t forget the 3 dead at the Jewish center in Kansas City, the ridiculous words said by Sterling the owner of the L.A Clippers, and now the vice chair of the 3 man police commission of Wolfeboro, NH calls the President a N@##@#! Each situation shows the harboring of racism. Amidst the up roar, there’s a few points that can’t be overlooked, read on and I’ll explain.

The Truth about Racism

And He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation. Acts 17:26

Racism based on ethnicity is a man made tragedy that has scarred people and marred history leaving an indelible mark. However, the truth is that there is only one race, with different ethnic groups. God made all of mankind from one man, Adam. No matter what our complexion, the color of our eyes, or the language we speak, we have one set of parents that spawned every ethnos or ethnicity we see! In America Racists taught that whites were a superior race, that blacks were inferior and therefore needed to be enslaved. They used bible verses to support themselves, science and whatever they could manipulate to their benefit. But look at the text, there is no ”superior race” and likewise there is no inferior race! The idea of different “races” of mankind, let alone superior and inferior, is an allusion, it’s smoke in mirrors, it doesn’t exist. We have all been created in the image of God almighty, fully human, and fully bearing His image! May the Truth triumph over this man made tragedy.

Racism Reveals the Heart

Amid all the education, with all the wealth our nation has, racism exists! Racism has long been denounced, found to be a thought process not fit for a “primitive” man but yet it still exists. The fact is racism, hatred, murder, adultery, stealing, lying etc all comes from a person’s heart, there is no education to teach the heart, and no amount of money can reshape it. (Mat 15:19, Gal 5:16-21) Racism is the ugliness of sin, calling out in slurs, thinking in ignorance, and striking out in violence.

Dealing with the Heart

Sins abode is the heart of man, the brain only thinks what the heart produces, and the body only acts at the prompting of the brain. We can train the brain to think better, or rather edit what comes out of the mouth, but to deal with sin we need a change of heart. I stand to declare that there is a Truth that can only be known in the heart, and when the heart perceives this Truth, it can never be the same, it changes (1 Tim 2:4, 2 Tim 3:7). There was a Saul who persecuted people of “the Way” till he met Jesus on the road to Damascus, his heart was changed (Acts 9). There was a slave trader who met the One who made all of mankind from one man, and he was changed so much he penned the words to the hymn Amazing Grace, “I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see”. Change is the outcome from meeting Jesus, and anyone who come to know Him as Lord and Savior will not be the same. I pray that this Truth triumphs over us all.
