Issues, Causes and Christ

April 18, 20128 Comments

Anybody living in this world will attest to having issues, things come up.  Dead batteries in cars, lost keys, and broken items seem to loom around each corner.  Parents will admit that kids rotate them through various issues hourly!  Our lives are filled with so many issues, thankfully the signature of most issues is that they are short-lived, they don’t last long.  You probably heard someone say, “I’m just putting out fires!”, no matter what you call them, issues will be there to take time and attention.  Our issues are distracting requiring our focus, but they are definitely not Christ.

When you Look out on this world it’s not hard to see the many problems.  We see the struggle of humanity; cancer, AIDs, hunger, poverty, sex trafficking etc.  These have pricked man with an incessant need, and others have risen to enshrine the moment and mobilize people for these various causes.  We are indebted to the Martin Luther king’s of this world, who in name of causes launch the  “fight” and put on gloves for their turn in the ring, but while causes trump issues they’re not Christ.

Each day we are issued, we really only have one great issue, Jesus. Our surrender to Him, sits in every situation, and each moment we breathe we breathe in our need for Him.  While the lesser issues of the day only take away, Jesus insists on infusing life in each moment we recognize Him.  The other issues pop up and we pay them attention, Jesus’ reservation inside of us is to reserve the ultimate place of recognition.  How do I serve Him today? Have I bowed my knee to Him now? Am I seeing Jesus in the needy, being intentional about releasing the Jesus in me?  Every since He issued His blood, He’s been the greatest issue for you and me.

There has been none who has rallied like Jesus for man’s greatest need, salvation.  Sin created man’s most incessant need, and Jesus stepped onto the scene to fight for our cause.  Jesus is our daily issue, and He is the Christ of our cause, the Man of the Heavenly movement.  In the face of injustices Jesus is God’s last message to a dying world.  In Jesus God launched the greatest movement ever; a movement of redemption and reconciliation.  A movement to rescue the lost, to remove the hedge that the Law created, and move man back to relationship with God.

The supremacy of Jesus, dictates that He’s the ultimate spade in life that trumps the issues, and He issues the blow that knocks out other causes.  Daily Jesus must be the primary issue for you and me, giving Him due attention and His life being lived out of us.  Our Christ who moved from heaven to move us back to God, is the eternal movement; He must be rallied, He must be exalted, He must be preached.  God told Peter “Hear Him”(Mat 17:5), and Jesus told us to not be ashamed of Him (Mar 8:38)! Jesus is the message of eternity, and He is the hope for all of humanity.

    Thomas, what a great post!

“Each day we are issued, we really only have one great issue, Jesus. Our surrender to Him, sits in every situation, and each moment we breathe we breathe in our need for Him.” This might be my new favorite quote of all time.

What you’ve expressed here God has been growing in my own heart recently. I have a lot of “Christian” friends who have really only added God onto their lives as an accessory. Some are far more passionate about politics, current events and staying on the cutting edge of what’s happening in the world as if these are the things truly important in the world. For others it’s something different, like careers/success/getting ahead, it could be anything, but these things are not what’s really important in life. They are the things of this world and this life- which are all passing away! Jesus should be the all-consuming ONE great obsession of every second of our lives! Like you said so perfectly: “Sin created man’s most incessant need, and Jesus stepped onto the scene to fight for our cause. Jesus is our daily issue, and He is the Christ of our cause, the Man of the Heavenly movement.”

Thank you for posting and I’m so thankful for what God has done in your heart and for the faith that He’s given you to step up and realize His calling on your life. Blessings! 🙂
