Have you ever faced a trying time, where you were afflicted? I have had my share of times of affliction, trying times and trying people. Just like you I know the frustrations associated with situations you didn’t create but you must fix, the heart ache of people who have made you a target of criticism and ridicule but you have only offered love. I also know that during those times its hard to receive comfort from other people. You know the phone call from the very good friend who prays with you and says, “God’s going to work it out!” So true, but so hard to receive during those tough times when the pressure is on. I want to share with you God’s promise to the afflicted. While it might be hard to receive comfort from a friend, we must receive comfort from God our Heavenly Father, if we push Him and His word away during tough times, we’re basically walking the plank and committing spiritual suicide, opening ourselves up to hopelessness, depression, and the destruction that Satan wants to bring (1 pe 5:8, Joh 10:10).
Read and receive the hope, the assurance and know that God promises certain things for you during times of affliction.
“O you afflicted one, Tossed with tempest, and not comforted, Behold, I will lay your stones with colorful gems, And lay your foundations with sapphires. I will make your pinnacles of rubies, Your gates of crystal, And all your walls of precious stones. All your children shall be taught by the LORD, And great shall be the peace of your children. In righteousness you shall be established; You shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; And from terror, for it shall not come near you. Indeed they shall surely assemble, but not because of Me. Whoever assembles against you shall fall for your sake. “Behold, I have created the blacksmith Who blows the coals in the fire, Who brings forth an instrument for his work; And I have created the spoiler to destroy. No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the LORD. (Isa 54:11-17)
These are not the words of a good friend trying to speak “positive” words to reaffirm you. This is God, your Heavenly Father who loves you. The God of promise, who can bring it to pass, know God promises to be there for you and that is the greatest assurance we have.
